Planning for retirement, some people would argue, is the main reason for working. Whether your retirement is a long way over the horizon or steaming into the harbour right now, you will be hoping that the 'long holiday' will be a luxury cruise and not steerage.

Retirement planning can appear to be very complex and often is. The present Government recently introduced radical legislation that removed much of this complexity. The 'Simplification of Pensions', as it is often referred to, became effective from 6th April 2006. It changed the eight pension regimes to just one single regime, which includes both company occupational schemes and personal pension plans.
